The Music

The files offered here are MP3 music files and are offered to you for your use for free. You may listen to them, copy them and give them away (I doubt that you could sell them ;o).

Perhaps some other folks out there will share their music, as well. Imagine what the world of music would be like without price fixing by record companies and scalping at concerts.  Honesty and trust work both ways. The Apple iPod price of $.99 per song makes a lot more sense than $18 for a CD.

The purpose of this section of our web site is to share what we are doing and encourage anyone who can to record and share their music as well. Years ago, my parents would meet with others on a Saturday night to play and sing. The stand-up bass, acoustic guitars, fiddles, mandolins and unamplified vocals resonating in the wood frame houses made a wonderful sound. It is in this spirit of free music that these songs are offered here.

We hope you enjoy these and if not, well, at least you got your money's worth ;o) If you have a fast connection (e.g. DSL/Cable) you can play song by left clicking on it.

To save song to your hard drive: Click on song name, Click on Save As, Select location and click on Save.

Available songs will change from time to time. If you find something you like, please let us know. Most of the things we play are what my coworkers usually call "old hippie music". We will also dig up some old folk or country songs and redo them. You probably won't find any Led Zeppelin or other more complicated music - not because we don't like them. We're just not that good at it. I am working on some Clapton, though. Maybe some day...

Knockin' On Heaven's Door - This song was written and originally recorded by Bob Dylan. It was first done as part of the sound track for a movie (anyone know the name of the movie?) and was played while one of the characters lay mortally wounded. As one would expect, it is a rather sad song and also is very short with only two verses. The song is probably one of the most covered songs in the music business and has also been recorded by such notables as Guns and Roses. Donna's accompanying vocals add an almost ethereal feeling to the song in this version.

Lead Vocals, Rhythm and Lead Guitar: Ty Husak

Backup Vocals, Bass Guitar: Donna Husak

Why Don't You Do Right - This song was written in 1942, just before the country came out of the Great Depression, and made famous way back there by the late and great Peggy Lee. In Ms. Lee's version of the song it is fast and jazzy, like most songs in the big band era. The song had another brief period of popularity when it was done by Amy Irving, voice of the cartoon character Jessica Rabbit, in the partly animated movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Jessica (Amy) sang the song in a slower more "bluesy" style. In this recording, Donna slows it way down and really brings out the blues.

Killing Me Softly - Another cover by Donna. This song was originally recorded by Roberta Flack. Donna plays bass and, of course, does the vocals. Guitar by Ty.

And now for something completely different

Have you ever been sitting out on the patio on one of those balmy days and wondered if you could get away with doing something really unusual - no, not that, but something different. I wondered if it would be possible to put the Edgar Allen Poe poem, The Raven, to music. It would have to be really simple and a little spooky. I played around with it a bit and

came up with a simple tune in E minor and gave it a shot. This made for a very long recording, but who knows, it may come in handy someday if you really need to memorize The Raven and reading it over and over just isn't cutting it. It's best listened to with headphones and a glass of wine - or maybe a bottle of wine - anyway, if you are willing to download the really big file (21 Megabytes, 9 minutes of play), here it is for you:

The Raven
