1969 CJ 5

This jeep is almost entirely stock. My plans for this one are to at least do a cosmetic restoration and probably eventually a frame off restoration. The jeep is powered by the original Dauntless V6 engine. The Dauntless was the most powerful engine put in jeeps up to the fuel injected 4.0 L I6. Yes, I know they put V8s in them before that, but the V8s came in just as they were having to install tons of horsepower robbing anti-smog apparatus and they really didn't put out as much power as they could have.

One thing that is fairly uncommon on this jeep is the PTO powered, 8000 lb pull, Ramsey winch mounted between the front frame members, The PTO takes power from the T-18 transfer case and so is after the transmission. This means that the winch also has three forward speeds and a reverse. Some folks will tell you that a disadvantage of a PTO winch is that it cannot be engaged while the jeep is in gear. This is true, but you can shift the T-case to neutral, engage the PTO, then shift the T-case back into gear. Anyway - this is the fastest winch (line retrieval speed) made.

Tires are 31X10.50 BFG Mud terrain. The jeep also sports a Canyon City spare tire carrier and gas can rack. This rack, by  the way is probably the toughest thing on the jeep. I did have a minor problem with fit on one part. When I called the folks at Canyon City up, they invited me over to their shop on a Saturday, handed me a beer and fixed the problem while I watched one of their experts set up a set of differential gears. Now, that's service!
