Photography

We both enjoy Photography as a hobby. Most of the older photographs that will appear here will be 35mm prints or slides that are scanned. We have both switched to digital, now, and are primarily using Nikon D100 camera bodies.

Star party at the Orange County Astronomers dark sky site near Anza, California. Nikon D100 shot with the camera doing most of the work.

This photograph is from a hiking trail in Orange County, CA up Holy Jim Canyon. The canyon is named after an early settler who was actually called "Cussin' Jim" because of his notoriously colorful language. The surveyors modified the name out of deference to Jim. It was in this canyon where the last grizzly bear in Southern California was killed while it was raiding beehives. Click for larger image. This was shot with the Nikon D100.

Another shot from Holy Jim Canyon. This little waterfall is one of the rewards for hiking up the canyon. It typically only runs in the the late fall through early spring with this shot taken around mid March. For the hardy hiker, the trail can be followed to Main Divide Road and thence to the top of Santiago Peak for an altitude gain of around 4000 feet. Santiago Peak is the tallest mountain in the Santa Anna range, which separates Orange County from Riverside County. The views from Santiago Peak are outstanding.

This is a real mouse in a real shell. I couldn't resist the obvious analogy. The mouse was one of our daughters pets and climbed into this shell by itself.

This is our eldest daughter, Jennifer. Everyone in the  family plays a musical instrument. Jenny's instrument of choice in school was the violin.

This is our younger daughter, Elizabeth, or as she is more commonly known, Lizzy. As I mentioned above, every one plays some instrument. For Lizzy, it is the Sax.

This is a macro image of a wasp, of some kind, on a flower. The actual length of the insect was about 1/4". This was taken with the Nikon D100 body and Nikkor 35-135 zoom lens in macro mode. Click for larger image. The colors are quite faithfully reproduced by the D100.
